Young Lawyers Forum
2018 has seen us heighten our focus on young lawyers, with deliberate policies designed to address historical challenges faced by this key constituency. We have hosted several mentorship platforms for young lawyers through the year and have designed even more powerful mentorship tools for 2019 and beyond. We facilitated the young lawyers conference in Burundi while gave exclusive training to young lawyers of under 35 years during the inaugural in-person ALSF Academy training in Kigali in October 2018. It is the realization that young lawyers are the future of the profession that informs our deliberate policies of targeted resource mobilization towards activities built for young lawyers. We have also rolled out the EALS Young Lawyers Essay Competition and winners will be recognized during the conference.
On its third year, this year’s Young Lawyers Conference is hosted on day 2 of the conference, featuring the theme aligned to the conference theme of Continental Free Trade Area. Cutting Edge discussions around law and technology, Rule of Law, Business and Human Rights, and structured mentorship for young lawyers will be featured in the day-long conference. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Willy Mutunga, Retired President of the Supreme Court of Kenya.
The 3rd Young Lawyers Conference picks up from the successful 2017 conference hosted in Entebbe. The aim of the conference is to grant young lawyers spaces for networking, learning and advancing regional integration agenda.
The Young Lawyers Conference concludes in the evening with an elaborate networking reception that grants young lawyers and delegates an opportunity to unwind while networking for business.
