Biography

Comm. Wakonyo has over 12 years experience in the human rights field, She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Masters of Law from Nottingham University. She has a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi.

Prior to joining the Commission she served at Diakonia Sweden as programme Manager, Lake Victoria Rights Programme. Before that she worked at the Legal Resources Foundation Trust as Executive Director. She was actively engaged in building the capacity of paralegals and has developed several curriculum for paralegal training.

She has worked closely with the judiciary, Kenya Prisons Service, Probation and after care services. She has a keen interest in improving access to justice and has advocated for the establishment of small claims courts, courts of petty sessions and the promotion of traditional justice resolution mechanisms.The commission will also benefit from her other managerial skills.
