The EALS Institute, based in Arusha at the heart of the East African Community, is the flagship training and capacity-building arm of the East Africa Law Society. Established in 2017 under the Society’s strategic vision, the Institute was created to respond to the evolving demands of the legal profession by delivering forward-looking, specialized, and practice-oriented training for lawyers across the region.
Guided by a dedicated full-time secretariat and a network of distinguished faculty, the Institute has grown into a centre of excellence for advanced legal education focusing on emerging areas of practice and critical specializations that are often underserved within traditional training frameworks. Its programmes are carefully designed to be practical, rigorous, and responsive to contemporary legal, economic, and technological developments shaping the region and beyond.
A defining milestone in the Institute’s journey was becoming the first host of the ALSF Academy, reinforcing its position as a trusted continental partner in high-level legal capacity building.
In the early months of 2026, the Institute has already reached over 20,000 advocates across East Africa through a dynamic portfolio of specialised programmes tailored to modern practice needs an impact that continues to grow as the year progresses. Its convenings are widely recognised for their depth, relevance, and transformative value.
